Nail fungus has taken its grip on over 35 million people and is still growing. Why has this been a common problem among people? In most cases it is not a situation of poor hygiene. Most people that have somehow been infected with nail fungi have good hygiene. So where does the problem lie.
This problem could take a direction into many areas, but for now we will focus on a few of the main problems that might have a direct relation to the cause of nail fungus. These may or may not be related to the cause of a person's infection, but to research where it might begin, is a good avenue to take when looking to find the cause of it. This will help in finding the cure only because nail fungus is contagious and can be caught through direct contact.
In most cases of these types of infections it is best to be knowledgeable of the locations and how it can be caught. The locations that most infections can be caught are places that wouldn't be thought of as being a carrier for this infection.
Most places that contain this kind of infection are public places. Places such as public pools, spas, bathrooms and most other places where people would walk around barefoot. Wearing sandals as much as possible in a public location would greatly reduce the risk of nail fungus.
If a person was to be infected with nail fungi, how would that person know? In the beginning stages of the infection, what is usually seen is a small white or yellow spot that is located underneath the nail bed more so toward the tip of the toe.
Now the toes that are most likely to be infected are the big toe and the little toe. Once infected the fungus normally starts to spread over the entire nail causing it to turn yellow. The nail will start to become thick and crumbly around the edges.
Only in the most severe of cases has the nail been known to cause pain. Most of the time it is just a cosmetic nuisance that causes millions of people to become self conscious about their feet.
Another common cause of nail fungus is what the condition the foot is in while performing activities. If someone is working or playing sports a majority of the time, chances is that the foot is sweating inside the shoe. Fungus thrives mostly in damp, hot and humid locations which can make it hard to eliminate, due to the fact that most people must wear such confining shoes due to their occupation.
If at all possible, keep the foot as dry as possible. Try to wear a sock that breathes and pulls the moisture away from the foot at the same time. This will greatly reduce the risk of infection or slow the process if already infected.
When treating the toenail for nail fungus, patience is a must. Reason being is that it takes longer for the toenail to grow out compared to the fingernail which grows much quicker. Persistence is a must when treating nail fungus.
